It's the beginning of a new month and a new topic, that of patience, which is waiting until later for what you want now. Aren’t you glad God created patience—and even gladder that His patience with you is boundless? And because He is patient, He works throughout our lives to instill that trait in us. But, oh, how hard it is to learn patience! The only thing harder, maybe, is dealing with the fallout of our hasty acts. Case in point: Esau. The guy whose hunger pains sapped his staying power, allowing his wily brother to cheat him out of his birthright—for a bowl of soup. What a ridiculous trade! But that’s what impatience does: it always costs you, more than you think. So today, help kids understand that if they don’t wait, it could cost them more than they bargained for. On the other hand, patience will benefit them in ways they can’t even imagine now, and it will give others a glimpse of God’s vast patience.

What make waiting easy? What makes it difficult?
What makes you the most impatient?
If you see it coming, what should you do?

What are some things you can do when you begin to feel impatient?
Pray together!
Now go get some dessert!

Have you ever had a "slow" computer?
Waiting is difficult sometimes - why is that?
How did both Esau and Jacob show a lack of patience in this story?
Patience is listed as one of the Fruits of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23 - Why do you think God chose "patience" as a fruit (a sign for others to see) that Jesus is Lord of your life?
What would that fruit look like in a Christian's life?
What does it say about you if you lack patience?
Is a lack of patience tied into a lack of trust?
How can we practice or exercise more patience - how can we be more patient?
Wrap-Up:
Is there anything we need to make right between us?
Pray together!
Now go get some dessert!
